Are you telling visitors to your online business exactly what you want them to do? The words Click Here are as old as the Internet and yet it still works perfectly today when used to tell a user exactly what you want them to do – Click.

The last couple of days I have been talking about Landing Pages and various things you can do to improve your conversions with landing pages. When users view your Landing Page they are making a very quick decision as to whether your offer interests them but they are also subconsciously looking for you to tell them what to do.

In the same way “Click Here” works well to tell a user exactly what you want them to do you can also use other subtle words.

For example yesterday we were looking at a sample Landing Page I created for a fictional store called “Leppard Flowers”. Now on that Landing Page is a button which could have had a number of different labels on it – the one I chose was “Arrange Delivery”. The reason I chose that was because it is exactly what I want the user to do. Now I could have also chosen the text “Buy Now” or “Order Online” (I want them to do that too) but the trick here is that nobody likes to be sold to, the words “Buy” or “Order” immediately say to the user “Give me money” – and that might be enough to prevent them clicking. In fact if this was a real campaign I’d split test having the text “Click Here to” in smaller lettering above “Arrange Delivery”.

This might sound simple but I would recommend you play around with your Call to action text and try different words, you might be suprised how it affects conversions.
